Over 30 boats partook in last year’s inaugural Nautilus Marine Winter Series. Conducted by the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS), there are over 20 prizes available to the fleet, which simply means you are seriously in the running for one. When those prizes include $1000 discounts off your next insurance policy, it is easy to understand why this event is back with strong support already.
Starting this Saturday, June 22, and running until August 31, there are both divisions and categories to suit you in IRC, Australian Measurement System (AMS) performance handicap and non-spinnaker. So if you are in Melbourne and the boat’s in the pen, then it is definitely time to grab the crew and get out there.
Now you do not have to come first to be amongst the money. Yes, first place in both IRC and AMS for all of Divisions One, Two and Three will earn you one of the fabled $1000 tickets. Of note, however, is that second and third places will also be in the money, to the tune of $500 and $250, respectively. The performance handicap and Non-Spinnaker divisions also share in the pool, which is over $12,000 large.
Rod Austin, the General Manager from the RMYS said, 'It really is great to see this event back and ready to fire once more. Following hot on the heels of the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta, we do hope that we can expect similar wonderful racing conditions across the six weeks. Many thanks to our tremendous sponsor and we’re looking forward to welcoming participants from other clubs around Port Phillip. You can have a complimentary pen for the night before and after the race, which will be a great way to see the progress on our new floating marina.'
Now did someone also say ‘Free drinks!’ Well yes they did, actually. Nautilus Marine Insurance will also put your first round of drinks on their tab at the event’s presentations, which will follow on after the last race on Saturday, August 31.
All that is left to say is there it is. See rmys.com.au for more information or to sign on for your chance to get amongst the dollars in the form of discounts from your Nautilus Marine insurance policy.
