US Sailing appoints new director of US Offshore

US Offshore, a division of US Sailing, has named Nathan Titcomb the new Associate Director of US Offshore and will be promoted to Director, effective January 1, 2016. Titcomb has served as a Technical Assistant since 2007 under the leadership of current Offshore Director and Chief Measurer, Dan Nowlan.

“Nathan has played an integral role and has been a major contributor to US Offshore’s initiatives,” explained Nowlan. “His strong background in computer science, boat construction, and naval architecture qualifies him as the natural choice for Offshore Director. I am confident that Nathan will thrive in this new role and lead US Offshore going forward.”

Nowlan, who has served as the director since 1999, will remain a strategic and technical advisor to US Offshore’s SAP projects, PHRF services, and Safety at Sea education.

For over 15 years, Nowlan has worked to position US Offshore as the go-to source for offshore boat owners in the U.S. Under his leadership, Nowlan has focused on setting the standard in excellence for boat ratings, measurements, safety training and equipment, race entry guidance, and helping sailors get their boats to the starting line in offshore competition.

Nowlan and Titcomb have shared a common goal of creating a more user-friendly experience for offshore customers and this will continue to be a primary focus for the organization.

“I have been very fortunate to work under Dan’s tutelage for the last eight years,” said Titcomb. “Dan is handing over the reins at an incredibly exciting time. My goal is to streamline the process for offshore racers to participate in their races.

“We are taking the initiative to move a portion of the Safety at Sea education online, as well as create an online portal for boat owners to apply for and manage their measurement rating certificates.

“Most importantly, I plan to continue and enhance US Offshore’s role as the principal resource for all racing sailors for all rating and handicap systems used today.”
