Mission performance sign up to Clipper Round the World Yacht Race

Clipper Ventures’ Official Learning and Development Partner, Mission Performance Limited, today announced its yacht entry and first time sponsorship in the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race, departing London, September 1st. The yacht will debut as one of the newly- designed Clipper 70 fleet and will be called Mission Performance.
Mission Performance is a UK-based Learning and Development consultancy, founded by two Ex Royal Marine Officers, Rob Lewis and Christiaan McLeod. The company’s consulting team includes elite mountaineers, decorated soldiers, polar explorers, elite sportsmen and women. The Mission Performance team use their first hand experiences of leading and building teams in seriously challenging environments to deliver engaging, high impact training and development programmes for businesses and organisations.
Rob Lewis, Founding Director, Mission Performance explains: 'When recruiting our teams we search out high performing, uniquely skilled individuals that can inspire and engage audiences. Our decision to sponsor the Mission Performance crew in the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race is very much aligned with this ethos.'

Mission Performance is no stranger to challenging environments. Its two founding directors Rob and Christiaan have taken part in and won two races to the Magnetic North Pole. They are looking forward to taking the lessons to their clients and the Clipper Race Learning and Development Forum, hearing the stories from the race, getting to know their skipper and crew and being a part of this incredible journey.
British Sailor Matt Mitchell, 26, the youngest of the Clipper Race’s twelve professional Skippers will lead the Mission Performance team. A sailing professional since leaving school, Matt has built up an extensive racing pedigree and is hoping to be the first British sailor to win the Clipper Race since Duggie Gillespie in 2005.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is the only race in the world where the organisers supply a fleet of 12 identical 70-foot, stripped down racing yachts – each sponsored by a place or a brand – and manned with a fully-qualified skipper, employed to lead the crews which include sports professionals, students, bankers, lorry drivers and nurses and more safely round the 40,000-mile, 11 month, global adventure.
The event was established by legendary British sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to give everyone, regardless of sailing experience, the opportunity to discover the exhilaration of ocean racing.
