Over the 2012 October long weekend youth sailors from around New South Wales and other states will be gathering at Lake Macquarie to compete in one of the largest youth sailing regattas in the country.

Held annually, the Nautilus Marine NSW Youth Championships is part of the Youth Sailing Grand Prix and attracts over 200 competitors across twelve classes. Classes include 29er, 420, Bic Techno 293, Flying 11, Flying Ant, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, Optimist, Sabot and Open BIC. With just on a month to go, over 70 entries have been received already.

'The entry levels continue to grow and after a successful regatta at Illawarra in 2011, we are anticipating a bigger turn out this year. We are aiming to position this event as a feature on clubs calendars to kick the season off in both a competitive and fun social environment,' said David Edwards, General Manager of Yachting NSW. 'I’m grateful for the support that clubs and class associations give this event.'

This year sees the regatta being hosted by Belmont 16’ Sailing Club and Yachting NSW is pleased to be able to announce that YNSW’s boat insurance partner, Nautilus Marine Boat Insurance, has come on board as a major supporter of the championships.

'Nautilus is particularly proud to be associated with the youth championships. The weekend is promises exciting racing and we wish all the competitors the best.' said the CEO of Nautilus, Lyndon Turner.

Nautilus Marine provides comprehensive pleasure boat insurance for a wide range of boats in Australia. The YNSW Boat Insurance policy has been written specifically for boat owners and every time a Yachting NSW member takes out a policy, Nautilus Marine returns a percentage to Yachting NSW and the policy holder’s sailing club. This rebate ensures that much needed funds are put back into the sport of sailing for training, equipment and safety.

Yachting NSW is also actively supported by NSW Maritime who partner with them to promote safe, responsible and enjoyable boating. This partnership is extended on a regular basis to support wide range of boating courses that are run by Yachting NSW.
