The World Sailing Speed Record (WSSR) Council has announced the establishment of a new World Record.

Record: Sydney to Auckland

Yacht: 'Team Australia' ORMA 60

Name: Sean Langman AUS and five crew.

Dates: 16th to the 18th October 2013.

Start time: 01;09;58 UTC on 16;10;13

Finish time: 20;12;43 UTC on 18;10;13

Elapsed time: 2 days 19 hours 2 minutes and 45 seconds

Distance: 1265NM

Average speed: 18.87kts

Comments: A Benchmark will have been set during the 1997/8 Volvo Race which certainly will have been slower than this claim. At present we have been unable to establish this crossing WSSR website

Bright sunshine and winds between 6 and 18 knots provided perfect conditions

A blustery blast on Day 3 of RYA Youth National Championships
Day three brought it with it a change of pace as gusts reaching over 20 knots and choppy waves challenged the fleets. Young talents await a royal audience tomorrow (13 April) as HRH The Princess Royal attends the penultimate day of racing. Whilst many sailors will look to consolidate their positions, others will hope to turn the tables on the leaders as the race to the podium closes in.

RYA Youth Nationals – Action packed Day 2 on Hayling Island
Whilst yesterday’s RS:X, Spitfire and 420 leaders continued to dominate, it was all change across the other classes On a day of building breeze, Alex Smallwood and Ross Thompson continue to lead the 420 fleet. Race five proved a challenge for the duo as they missed out on a shift, however with a 2,3 in the other races of the day the pair remain strong, with the next boys 40 points adrift.
