Volvo Ocean Race - like it’s meant to be

by Rob Kothe and the Sail-World Team on 21 Mar 2012
Camper heads for the Bays’ mark accompanied by her ever present spectator fleet - Volvo Ocean Race Auckland - Start March 18,2012 Richard Gladwell www.photosport.co.nz
Now the VOR fleet is in the southern ocean, it’s just like old times and we can see by the clicks on the stories that this is what sailors want to read and hear about.

However short of towing China and India down into the Indian Ocean I can't quote see how the race organisers can make a compromise between serious ocean racing courses and the worlds new commercial markets.

Lots of other interesting news.. the 2016 Skiff and Multihull evaluation trails are continuing in Santander Spain.

Up in Hong Kong, Geoff Hill's Strewth TP52 is being replaced by the Dubois 90 Genuine Risk.

Will be interesting to see if they can really get her going in the Rolex China Sea race and during the next few months before bringing her down for the 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart Race, but at last it seems Frank Pong will have some serious racing competition, having owned the big boat end of town across Asia for the last decade.

Had summer arrived? Maybe not once you'd got out of the car.. Approaching Stokes Bay Sailing Club looking out through the windscreen it looked as though Summer had arrived. The sun was out, and the trees had plenty of green leaves. Getting out of the car shattered the illusion, stepping into a brisk northerly 8°C.
