A new and exciting Viper 640 European Event in 2015 has been announced by Rondar Boats Ltd. Lake Garda is one of the great sailing venues and already there are signed up entries from the UK and Australia, with potential entries from the USA. It’s a serious sailing regatta and Italian holiday in one event! This will be a joint fleet with the K6 Class, but with separate starts of course. Charter boats may be available.

Lake Garda is a deep finger lake with steep mountain sides. The wind blows strong in the afternoons, making it a superb venue for the high performance Viper 640. Entry costs will be in the region of €250.00 per boat, including a pasta meal after the race. Email Rondar Boats UK admin@rondarboats.com to reserve an entry.

Garda Winds and Weather

Riva del Garda traditionally enjoys hot summer sunshine during the day and warm evenings. The 'ORA' wind blowing from the South, is the most famous wind in northern Lake Garda, well known by sailors from all over the world. It alternates with the Pelèr, (morning northerly wind) blowing from around noon until sunset. The Ora achieves its maximum intensity in northern Lake Garda thanks to the Venturi effect which intensifies its wind force to over 20 miles per hour provoking significant wave motion. It has its maximum intensity during the summer months.

The new clubhouse is one of the best and most welcoming in the world. Positioned alongside the lake and just a few steps from the old town centre, it has modern facilities, including slipway launching and crane lift into the protected harbour. The professionally run Club regularly organises large international regatta fleets throughout the year. There are numerous hotels and apartments to choose from as this is a holiday resort.

Viper 640 in the UK

A successful season both overseas and around the UK with boats competing at Miami Bacardi Cup Parkstone regatta, Cork Week, Cowes Week, Torbay Week. The local Viper at Falmouth won’t the IRC Falmouth regatta outright. The US Class goes from strength to strength, and there are around nine orders to be built this autumn.

The new website will detail UK - European events, which will include Miami in March, Lake Garda, June and Larchmont US Nationals in September. Other recent enquiries have been received from Holland and Germany. The Lake Garda event already has committed entries from the UK and Australia. Other US sailors have expressed an interest in competing.

Our Viper 640 works boat GBR225 is for sale. It has everything to go racing - North sails, top and under covers, and road trailer unit. Contact Paul or Andy at Rondar Boats UK at admin@rondarboats.com for more details.
