Vendee Globe 2012-2013 - Laborious night for Gamesa's Golding

Vendee Globe Race 2012-2013. Mike Golding has worked Gamesa tirelessly through the night as he negotiates his way towards Cape Finisterre in light, upwind conditions which have confounded him several times in the night. He has lost some 20 miles on rival Jean Le Cam but remains some 50 miles ahead.

'It is starting to get a little better and I hope I am getting a little lifted now,' said Golding this morning, 'but the wind direction is not what I was expecting on the files. The last hour I have been pointing more in the direction of the mark, but I feel like I have spent hours chasing my tail. I think I have probably tacked six times and that is hard work!'

Golding has 356 miles to make to Cape Finisterre and about 720 miles to the Vendee Globe Race
