Vendee Globe - Mike Golding's message for winner Francois Gabart

by Emily Caroe on 28 Jan 2013
Mike Golding, Gamesa - 2012 Vendee Globe Mike Golding Yacht Racing http://www.mikegolding.com
In the Vendee Globe, the winner has been decided. 29 year old Francois Gabart onboard Macif was the first across the line in Les Sables d'Olonne. Currently in sixth place (2,581.0 nm from the finish) Brit Mike Golding sent this message to the the youngest winner in the Race's history.

François – what can we say but our very best congratulations? It seems totally inadequate for what you have achieved today. Your amazing race and, it has to be said, that of the entire leading group, has provided in 2012/13 something simply fantastic (if at times frustrating) to watch from back the 'cheap seats' of the chasing pack.

Your race has been simply stunning and breaking 80 days is just a cherry on the top – it’s a dream which you must enjoy. It seems as if Mer Agitée has injected you with the performance DNA of your mentor Mich – yet you have retained you own unique character and style. What a formula!

Enjoy the moment in Les Sables d'Olonne, I ‘m sure this is just the beginning for one so young and with such talent.
