With just two months to go, the 18th combined Clubs’ Jersey Regatta, kindly sponsored for the fourth year running by UBS AG Jersey, a branch of UBS AG the world’s leading wealth management company, is coming into very sharp focus.
Being held from Friday ninth to Sunday 11th September, this sailing ‘jamboree’ will see sportsboats, cruiser/racers, dayboats, dinghies, sport catamarans and, for the first time, windsurfers racing in the beautiful confines of St Aubin’s Bay. As the Island’s flagship sailing event, the Regatta provides the Island’s sailing community, along with visitors from Guernsey, the UK, France and further afield the opportunity to join in three days of competitive racing and fun.
The programme opens on the Friday morning with a coastal race for sportsboats, cruiser/racers and F18 sport catamarans. Dayboats, dinghies and small catamarans make their first appearances later that day whilst windsurfers join in on Saturday. With three back-to-back races scheduled for all classes on Saturday and Sunday everyone can be certain that they will be kept fully occupied whilst spectators can rest assured that St Aubin’s Bay will present a stunning sight throughout the Regatta.
The Spinlock IRC Channel Islands Regional Championship for cruiser/racers, included within the Regatta programme, will undoubtedly provide an additional degree of keen competition as skippers vie for the title of IRC CI Champion 2016. British and French boats without a Spinlock IRC rating can compete in the Championship by taking advantage of the low cost Single Event Ratings offered by the RORC Rating Office.
A full social programme accompanies the exertions and excitement of the racing schedule, providing everyone with plenty of opportunity to enjoy the warm welcome that awaits them in the Island’s Clubs and, for visiting skippers, the opportunity to glean a little local knowledge that might just give them the edge to help them carry off some of the coveted silverware.
