Success in Bournemouth - Intermediate Marina Managers Course British Marine Federation
Eighteen assistant marina managers, supervisors and foreman from the UK, Ireland, Croatia and Montenegro successfully completed the Intermediate Marina Management Course held in Bournemouth from 3-6 March 2015.
The course, which was run by the BMF in conjunction with The Yacht Harbour Association and Global Marina Institute, is widely recognised in the marina industry and is a stepping-stone to the Advanced level course. Completion of the advanced course is one of the requirements of becoming a Certificated Marina Manager (CMM).
Over the course of four days speakers presented a wide variety of topics including marina law, environmental management, accounting and business planning, customer service and leadership and development. A field trip to three local marinas, including Parkstone Yacht Club, Buckler's Hard Yacht Harbour in Beaulieu and Lymington Yacht Haven gave the opportunity for delegates to consider aspects of marina design and layout. The course culminated in a major group project to propose an idea to increase profit in one of the visited marinas, which delegates presented on the last afternoon of the course.
After a week of intense work, with classes starting at 08:30 and delegates often burning the midnight oil, all the delegates must be congratulated on working so hard to successfully complete the course.
Due to high demand, the BMF is now planning another Intermediate course in the UK to be held in February 2016.
Additionally BMF is running a full Advanced Marina Management School in the Netherlands from 18-23 October 2015. This week-long course will be aimed at marina managers who have at least three year's experience working at this level.
