Round the Island Race - Ariel of Cowes achievements impressive

J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race 2012 81st edition, organised by the Island Sailing Club, got underway on Saturday 30th June.

2012 is proving to be an exciting year for Grand Soleil. Consistent racing results coupled with a new range of performance cruisers means that the long established Italian brand is attracting some real attention.

Of the twenty-two Grand Soleils that entered last weekend’s Round the Island Race, it was Noel and Richard Dobbs' team onboard their Grand Soleil 45 'Ariel of Cowes' who collected the most sizeable amount of silverware. With an elapsed time of six hours and fifty-three minutes, Ariel were awarded ISC Rating System Division 4B, divisional winner, and winner of the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Family Trophy, the Crankshaw Bowl for overall winner ISCRS Group 4 and Silver Gilt Roman Bowl and and J.P. Morgan Asset Management Salver for first overall ISCRS.

Ariel's achievements were particularly impressive as the team had never crewed a boat together. Owner Richard commented 'It was great weather for a Grand Soleil 45. The crew had never sailed together as a whole, and included my wife Cathy and my parents. It was just our second outing this year.'

The 2013 Round the Island Yacht Race will take place on Saturday 1st June.
