Road to Rio – One Olympic venue to the next World Sailing
The Sailing World Cup touched down in Weymouth and Portland last week and it was one of the last official organised regattas before the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It gave the future Olympians an opportunity to test themselves one last time against their Rio competitors, in a full race setting, before the summer showpiece.

The home of the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Competition had a mix of conditions to challenge all in attendance, much like the Rio venue. The mixed sailing conditions from racing inside and outside of Guanabara Bay will test the all-round abilities of the qualified and selected athletes in the first South American Games.

That is to come, but for now there were Sailing World Cup medals to win. Great Britain were the big winners with 13 medals, but there were also some interesting results to take note of. Croatia's Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic took the Men's 470 ahead of Australia's Mat Belcher and Will Ryan. Are the Croatian's peaking at the right time? Lijia Xu picked up a silver medal. Will the Chinese golden girl continue her comeback to the Laser Radial with another Olympic medal? Only time will tell…

Racing in Weymouth and Portland. Training in Rio. A mixture of both. Sailors are ramping up their Olympic preparations so that they are in the best shape possible to compete for medals in their class and we are with them on the run up to the Games as we feature a selection of sailors from around the globe.
