RYA VHF Handbook eBook / Garmin prize draw winner revealed

by Emma Slater on 25 Apr 2014
David Smith - VHF Garmin winner RYA http://www.rya.org.uk
David Smith from West Byfleet in Surrey has been revealed as the winner of the RYA VHF Handbook eBook / Garmin prize draw.

The RYA Publications Department teamed up with Garmin Ltd to offer one lucky prize-draw winner a free Garmin Marine VHF 100i Black when they purchased a copy of the RYA VHF Handbook eBook, individually or as part of the RYA eBook VHF course set, directly from the RYA webshop.

Chosen from amongst hundreds in the free prize draw, David commented on his win: 'I’m a regular crew on a yacht owned by a friend of mine and this season he is planning on replacing his somewhat old VHF set. All being well, I’ll be able help him out on this problem as we’ll have a brand new Garmin Marine 100i Black to fit in its place.

'I already own a Garmin hand held VHF set and a Garmin portable GPS that have both served me well in the past and look forward to receiving this new piece of equipment to complete the set.'

When asked about the RYA VHF Handbook eBook that he purchased to be eligible for the free prize draw David added: 'I’ve always enjoyed sailing a great deal, but due to various circumstances I find that I’m not out on the water now as much as I used to be, so I’ve found it very useful to have the RYA VHF Handbook eBook available on line as a ready reference and reminder of VHF procedure and protocol and will invariably take time to read through the booklet each time before I go to sea.'

The RYA VHF Handbook eBook, written by Tim Bartlett, author of the best-selling RYA Navigation Handbook, explains in detail how VHF works, the rules and regulations which govern it and the procedures that must be followed.

Along with the RYA VHF Radio SRC Syllabus and Sample Questions - third Edition eBook, both eBooks are useful for all sailors who need to know about using VHF radios. They are especially relevant for anyone looking to pass the VHF Operator's Short Range Certificate (SRC) examination, the radio operator qualification which authorises the holder to operate a VHF radiotelephone (fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC)) on board any British vessel which is voluntarily fitted with radio equipment.

While all RYA eBooks can be bought directly through the RYA Books App, RYA Publications would also like to remind customers about the additional benefits of buying your eBooks directly through the RYA webshop:

· Access to your eBooks on all supported platforms and on up to three different devices
· Take advantage of any applicable RYA Members’ discount
· Sync notes and bookmarks across platforms
