RS300s at Abersoch Dinghy Week 2016

by Matt Jenkins on 24 Aug 2016
2016 Abersoch Dinghy Week James Cowlishaw
2016 Abersoch Dinghy Week - Abersoch delivers again. Great venue, wind and company made for a most enjoyable week’s sailing. Three RS300s formed part of a 22 strong mixed single handed fleet including a wide range of boats from Musto Skiffs to Byte C11s.

The early part of the week was dominated by the Musto with three bullets. It took Matt Jenkins three races to work out how to avoid getting rolled by him up the first leg only for the Musto to retire with gear failure leaving the RS300s to battle it out for the title. Paul Watson and Matt Jenkins traded blows all week beating each other three times a piece rarely separated by more than 30 seconds at the gun. Jenkins generally had the edge downwind with Paul Watson on fire up the beats making for a fascinating tactical battle.

James Cowlishaw took a while to find form choosing to follow the dolphins at times rather than tracking the shifty conditions. It all came good in the last race however, with a late charge earning him a well-earned second place. Unfortunately he could not quite pass Paul Watson, leaving Watson as the deserved champion from Matt Jenkins by a point. James Cowlishaw moved up to a commendable seventh overall with RS300s once again dominating the fleet.
