RS Feva – Ever changing conditions for end of season Championships

by Debbie Darling on 27 Oct 2010
RS Feva Grand Prix 3 Digital images
RS Feva end of Season Championships were run in a great breeze (including a couple of little whirlwinds!) with showers on Saturday, which was replaced with gentler but perishing winds and wall to wall sunshine on Sunday. Matt Whitfield and Gareth Viney started off by continuing their dreadful run of misfortune with yet another scoreless race. Then however they pulled it together to score three bullets, a second and a third to take a very well deserved title.

Only Morgan Peach and Herbie Harford kept up the challenge throughout the weekend after Hugo Tucker and Tim Collino’s challenge faltered on the Sunday. Of the pursuing pack it was returning stars Cathy Lear and Francine Counsell that fared best to take third place. The remainder of the prizes went to Jovian Short and James Barlow in fourth and second Torbay boat to confirm the emergence of the RTYC as arguably the current dominant club in the class, Owen Bowerman and Charlie Darling who put a forgettable first day behind them (after breaking their toestraps before the first race) in fifth and on tiebreak only in sixth Robert Baddeley and James Taylor who were a constant threat.

Merit awards went to the four Oakham School lads who assisted very ably in the protest room to help get through the longish list of disputes thrown up by the large RS Tera fleet with whom the event was shared. Special mentions for Jack Nunn and James Dando from Cardiff Bay who overcame a torrid Saturday with meaningful Sunday and Oakham’s Stuart Doughty and Dominic Lashbrook who managed to survive every race on Saturday. Thank You Rutland – brilliant as ever!
