Exposure’s X2 personal searchlight may look like an ordinary torch on the shelf. However, there’s much more to it than first appearances. When you pick it up it is so light its hard to believe it has a battery in it, let alone one that will last for 13 hours before recharging. It is also difficult in a daylight shop environment to get a sense of the impact of its impressive red beam searchlight. It is even harder to catch that impact in a photograph!
Matt Knighton, on board reporter on Abu Dhabi’s Ocean Racing ‘Azzam’ has managed to do just that during the current leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. His amazing photographs just off the boat have captured the incredible power of the Exposure X2 and its advantages for all offshore sail trimmers at night!
Whether your are racing or cruising, flashing a white spotlight across your helm or fellow crew’s line of sight at night is about the most unpopular thing you can do. It can take up to 30 minutes to regain full night vision and that can only have a bad impact on boat speed!
The Exposure X2 has three red modes - the high beam will easily spot the tell-tales at the top of a Volvo 65 mainsail, medium for all round work and low beam for close-up work on deck. Plus, it has three white beam modes, with the high setting creating a 573 lumens searchlight with a 162m beam distance. IPX8 rated to three metres depth, the X2 also features a Strobe and SOS function too should you need it in an emergency.
The combination of the X2 and Exposure’s XS-R, a miniature red beam torch worn around your neck, ready for any requirements above or below deck, means you will always protect you own and your crew’s night vision throughout your offshore race! The X2 is the perfect solution for a personal crew light to conform to the category 1 and 2 ISAF Offshore safety regulations too.
