Nath capsized eleven times in setting that record. You won’t see that kind of crash and burn in 2012 and if conditions are right, we expect to see a bunch of sailors ahead of the record.

Still to come is the pre-race dinner this Friday (the night before the race), which provides a number of additional fundraising opportunities as the event races towards its target of $30,000
As well as the iconic 24 hour race and the very popular One Lay Dash This year's Regatta includes a new event, the 12 Hour Challenge. It will have the same course and start time (1100 hours) as the 24 Hour race, but will finish at 2300 hours on Saturday September 29.

The Heaven Can Wait 24 hour race was conceived and promoted by Lake Macquarie resident, keen sailor and cancer survivor Shaun Lewicki as a major annual sailing event on the lake, to promote sailing, the Lake Macquarie/Newcastle/Hunter region – and to raise funds for cancer research.
