Pre-notice of race posted for 2016 ORC World Championship

The Royal Danish YC (KDY), the Egaa Yacht Club (ES) and the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) are pleased to announce the posting of the pre-Notice of Race for the 2016 ORC World Championship, to be held over 15-23 July 2016 in Tuborg Harbor, Copenhagen.

The document outlines the rules of the regatta, the CDL rating limits of the three classes competing at the event, the fee schedule for entries in each class, the preliminary schedule of events, general information about Tuborg Harbor, and the trophies and prizes awarded at the event. The official Notice of Race will be available soon after the Annual General Meeting of the ORC next month.

Racing will start on Monday 18 July, and for now seven inshore up-and-down races are scheduled together with a Coastal Race and a Long Offshore Race. Race areas for the inshore races will be North and East of Tuborg Harbour with a maximum of one hours sailing to reach the race areas. The Coastal race will take place on the Oresund and will have rounding marks in Danish as well as Swedish waters. The long offshore race will take competitors up into the Kattegat with several rounding marks.

The weather in Copenhagen at that time of year is usually fantastic, with an average temperature of 22° C and average wind of 8.5 knots from the west. On sunny days the sea breeze will build and sometimes even reach as high as 30 knots.

Tuborg Harbor is the most modern and functional harbor in Denmark, and is situated close to downtown Copenhagen, only a 15-minute drive to Tivoli and the main shopping areas. The clubhouse is in the center of the harbor, so walking distances are short and the clubhouse will form a natural meeting point with the event tent.

Hotel facilities are very good and at that time of year reasonably priced. Organizers are now negotiating special prices and conditions for participants and families of the event, with information to be posted soon on the event website.

In addition to the Worlds, KDY and ES are also planning to host a regatta based in Tuborg Harbor over three - five June 2016 to act as a Pre-Worlds event to test event organizers and the Race Committee, as well as the competitors. The timing if this event around other important regattas in the region should allow entries to the Worlds to get this valuable preview on what to expect in the main event the following month.

'We are excited about hosting this event next year,' said Lars Bo Ive, Commodore of KDY. 'We are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the club next year, and are very happy that our friends at Egaa and the ORC has agreed to work with us to bring the best in offshore sailing to come to race in Copenhagen. We plan to have this event feature both competitive racing on the water, but also lots of fun ashore.'

Those interested in registering for the 2016 ORC Worlds may do so now by filling out the form available online on the event website.

'We look forward to another successful ORC World Championship event next year, following on the trend of those held in the last several years where we have had over 100 entries from many countries,' said Bruno Finzi, Chairman of ORC. 'Copenhagen will attract many interested teams from throughout the world, and with the talent and history of the organization we expect this will be another superior event.'
