Kiteboarding World Championship sanctioned by ISAF

For the first time in history, the 2009 Kiteboarding World Championship title will be sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). The world wide unified rulebook used by the IKA paves the way for a global world ranking with one conjoined world champion. The ranking is intended to include the present world tours, independent organisers and national events.

Volvo Ocean Race. It was a good day onboard Green Dragon as Ian Walker and his crew stormed over the scoring gate picking up three valuable points along the way. Team Russia, skippered by Andreas Hanakamp, crossed the scoring gate at longitudinal 58 degrees east on the second leg of the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 in fourth position this morning at 09.36 GMT to pick up 2.5 points.

Loïck Peyron’s (Gitana Eighty) lead has grown to the 39.2 miles ahead of Sébastien Josse (BT) Speeds overnight have remained slow but steady. Day four of the second leg and it’s getting wet and very wild out there as the fleet have their first real whiff of the Roaring Forties. Widespread sickness has meant involuntary diets for some crew members as the weather gods serve up a menu of 40+ knots and confused, 8-10 metre seas. The southern ocean has laid on a hostile reception.
