New initiative encourages youngsters to return to racing

Do you struggle to sail due to crew or helm issues, or your college/university has no sailing team, or you can’t afford to campaign a dinghy then this is just for you!

Open to individual sailors age 16 to 21 who are experienced fleet racers.

Limited to 36 sailors

Dates: Nov 2/3; Nov 30/1 Dec, January 25/26, Feb 22/23; Mar 15/16

Cost: £250 per sailor for five training weekends OR £60 per sailor per weekend

The event saw 10 races completed for each class across two race courses with sailors experiencing the perfect conditions The event, kindly sponsored by Centra, saw 10 races completed for each class across two race courses with sailors experiencing the perfect mix of conditions. IRO Alan Crosbie and team took charge of the RS400 fleet South of Long Island and NRO David Harte and team took charge of the RS200 fleet outside Schull Harbour near Castle Island.

With just a minor readjustment in the afternoon the course set was good for the two races before lunch and two after. 2016 RS Vareo Volvo Noble Marine National Championship – The forecast was light for day two at Llandegfedd SC but on the day a little more wind showed up than expected blowing pretty much straight down the lake from the South/South West so the course was reversed from day one. With just a minor readjustment in the afternoon the course set was good for the two races before lunch and two after.

Throughout a taxing week, where the weather danced around the fleet and provided more snakes than ladders on the open sea courses off Hayling Island, the father and son team were never out of the top ten.
