Laser 4.7 Youth World Championships - Australian holds down second

International Laser 4.7 Youth World Championships day 4 of sailing in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Tasmanian lass Anna Vaughan today maintained second place overall in the International Laser 4.7 Youth World Championship, although the overall lead changed.


Anna, 16, from the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, has won two races so far and today finished seventh in race 7, sailed in a light 10 knot breeze but dropped back to 14th in race 8, as the wind freshened to 15 knots.

However, she is only three points behind the new leader, Croatian Anja Hamerlitz who today had her worst race in a consistent series, finishing 23rd. Discarding this race she has a net 34 points while Anna Vaughan has a net 37 points, discarding a 17th place in race 6.

One point behind Anna, is early leader Celine Herud (NOR) who today placed eighth and 17th. Close behind in overall standings after eight races for the 46-boat fleet are sailors from Spain and Singapore.

Best placed of the other Australian girls is Victorian Anna Philip who had a fifth and fourth today to move up to ninth overall while Jacinta Ainsworth (NSW) is 16th, placing 25th and 30th today.

In the Laser 4.7 Youth championship for boys, Victorian Jack Felsenthal has dropped from fourth to fifth in overall standings, with a fourth and an 18th place today. However, is well within striking distance of a podium placings.

Hungrarian Benjamin Vadnal is overall leader maintaining his constancy today with a third and a fourth to have a net 21 points.
