Kieler Woche - Canadian sailors take to the water

Kieler Woche is in full swing, hosting a full slate of Olympic and Paralympic classes including the new Nacra 17. Sailing is only one portion of Kiel week, the largest summer festival held in Northern Europe. Canada is represented four sailing classes including Greg Douglas in the Finn, Jon Ladha/Dan Inkpen and Dave Mori/Justin Barnes in the 49er, Greg Clunies sailing Laser and Luke Ramsay/Nikola Girke in the Nacra 17.

After three days of racing, a mixed bag of results for the Canucks led by Greg Douglas in seventh place overall in the Finn after a difficult start to his event has put up consistent numbers to move into medal race contention. Greg Clunies is representing in the 92 boat Laser fleet this week, demonstrated some strength in the top 20 thus far with a couple top 10 races under his belt. Finals continue for this fleet followed by two medal races.

49er team Ladha/Inkpen had a strong start to their regatta qualifying for the gold fleet for their first time however the battle with the conditions and a few tactical errors have them in 21st with four races to go.

Luke Ramsay and Nikola Girke had a tough start to their regatta with some equipment failure followed by DNF's, have them crawling their way back into the top 20 with a fourth place finish today. There is opportunity to move up in the coming Canadian Sailing Team Kieler Woche website

Round the Island Race Live Stage Leaderboard
A new feature for the 2024 race! This year, competitors in the IRC or ISCRS (Island Sailing Club Rating System) fleets will be able to access a new LIVE Stage Leaderboard, which will show the boat's fleet position on handicap after each of the main race stages.
