Australian sailor Brendan Casey has won silver in the Finn class at Kiel Week, Germany.

Casey went into the medal race three points behind leader, Estonian Deniss Karpak, with double points up for grabs in the final 10-boat race.

The Australian came home third in the short final hit-out, with the Estonian taking the win, on the leader board Casey was eventually seven points behind in second and 13 clear of third.

The silver medal was Casey’s second trip to the podium this year following his win at the ISAF Sailing World Cup round in France in April.

The regatta was Casey final event before making his Olympic debut next month at London 2012.

Australia was also represented in the Laser and Laser Radial medal races with Ryan Palk and Ashley Stoddart out to move up the ladder in the final race of the regatta.

In the Laser class Palk went into the race in fifth position, 11 points off the podium, needing a good race and results to go his way to claim a medal.

The Queenslander nearly pulled it off, crossing the line second behind overall winner, Germany’s Philipp Buhl, to eventually be just three points away from the bronze medal.

Ashley Stoddart started the Laser Radial medal race in sixth position, finishing the medal race in eighth to hold down her overnight place on the leader board.
