2014 J70 European Championships, Day 3 - Calvi Network Elena Giolai/Fraglia Vela Riva
Today was a pleasant September day with light winds at Riva del Garda for the penultimate day of the first European J70 Championships hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva with 33 skiffs taking part from eight different countries.
The light wind conditions highlighted the crews which in the course of the championships, due to the assets of the skiff, had gradually progressed. Two races with light winds of 6-8 knots were held today, with the second being raced with a reduced course. There was a slight set-back for current leader Calvi Network who took a sixth and fourth partial allowing Rochas of Spain on 'New Territories to close the gap to within only six points thanks to a first and second partial today. Still holding on to third place is Alessio Marinelli on Uji who today had a 17th and fourth. Charlie Esse of Great Britain on Baby J holds on to a solid first place in the Corinthian category and is fourth overall, while 'Pensavo Peggio' of Andrea Magni stays in second place followed by 'Jawbreakers' of Great Britain. Racing starts tomorrow at 8.30 with two more races and northerly winds.
Meanwhile at Fraglia Vela Riva the International Optimist Team- Itas Trophy Regatta gets under way tomorrow with young talent competing until Sunday in this spirited team event.
