ISSA Team Racing Nationals set for Schull

The Irish Schools Team Racing Nationals will take place in Schull, Co. Cork on the 13th and 14th of April. Fourteen teams that earned qualification at their regional events will be taking part. For the first time two visiting teams from the UK will be competing, a good sign that the standard is growing nationally.

Results will be posted on www.irishschoolsailing.com.

After a short delay, an eight - ten knot breeze filled in from the South West allowing racing to get underway in glorious sunshine – with the fleet managing to complete their full schedule of three races.

Big waves and traffic made for some white knuckle rides. Jerry Wales held on to a solid second. Neil Ashby finished third.

73 boats have signed on for the 2016 VRsport.tv International Moth UK Nationals at the WPNSA in Weymouth. Seventy-three boats have signed on for the 2016 VRsport.tv International Moth UK Nationals at the WPNSA in Weymouth. With the odd lightning strike off Chesil Beach and a huge storm over Dorchester, the fleet were released to leave the shore once it was deemed safe enough to sail in Portland Harbour, with racing getting underway just 20 minutes after the scheduled 1pm start time.

Excellent PRO Peter Jellis had to cram in six races in two days. Day 4 was a gnarly force three - four through a chop. Excellent PRO Peter Jellis had to cram in six races in two days. Day 4 was a gnarly force three - four through a chop. From this helm’s perspective (glorious mid-fleet mediocrity), that was hard work. Keeping the bow down and getting the foils to bite was the order of the day, and you could now bounce a coin off these abs.

Volvo Noble Marine UK National Championship - Day 1
Day 1 of RS400 Nationals dawned with blazing sunshine. This lead to a two hour postponement before fleet were released Day 1 of the RS400 Nationals dawned with blazing sunshine. This lead to a two hour postponement ashore before the fleet were released to Hayling bay. Race one got away first time with only an individual recall for Kevin Podger and Heather Chipperfield who had mistaken the leeward mark for the pin end of the line.

96 RS200 teams were also treated to a very friendly welcome to Mounts Bay Sailing Club. 96 RS200 teams were also treated to a very friendly welcome to Mounts Bay Sailing Club. I like this sort of club. It has salty overtones, redolent of oilskin, neoprene, sweat and two-stroke.

RS300s at Abersoch Dinghy Week 2016
Abersoch delivers again. Great venue, wind and company made for a most enjoyable week’s sailing. Abersoch delivers again. Great venue, wind and company made for a most enjoyable week’s sailing. Three RS300s formed part of a 22 strong mixed single handed fleet including a wide range of boats from Musto Skiffs to Byte C11s.
