Garmin Summer Series - Final prize draw winner revealed

With only two weeks to go until GJW Direct SailFest, the early entry prize was drawn this morning for the last prize draw Garmin VIRB Elite action camera - with more cameras to be won at the event itself, the Garmin Summer Series final round at Calshot over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The announcement late last week that SailFest is to host the 18ft Skiff UK Nationals has already prompted a handful of entries from the fleet and it was one of these, the entry from Steve McLean, that was drawn from the hat. Expect some exciting footage as the camera will be presented to Steve at the briefing on Saturday, ready to go.

Calshot Activities Centre has awesome sporting facilities and, for the August Bank Holiday weekend, sailors are invited to book sessions as part of the GJW Direct SailFest dinghy sailing regatta. Regatta entry is not required to take part in the sports sessions, just book now and bring the family for a sailing themed activity day with racing to watch on the water as well as live ashore via GPS tracking.

Sessions are 45 or 90 minutes, depending upon the activity and include:

• Velodrome Cycling - the only velodrome south of London
• Extensive climbing walls with routes for everyone from beginners to experienced climbers
• Archery - purpose designed indoor range
• Watersports - kayaking and windsurf sessions

The accommodation packages available on site at Calshot, on the stunning Southern shore of the New Forest, can be extended from three nights to over a week to enjoy the local area. A hearty breakfast is included in the B&B package to fuel a day of activity, ashore or afloat.

And of course dinghy sailors are invited to enter the regatta. The event starts with a coaching day on Friday followed by three days of racing - six races over Saturday and Sunday and the North Sails One Design Pursuit Race on the Monday. Winner of SailFest will take another of Garmin's cameras, with of course additional VIRB Elites for the first placed boat from any club or class with 15 or more entries.

GJW Direct SailFest runs from Friday 22nd to Monday 25th August 2014, with the regatta racing from Saturday to Monday. The regatta represents forms the final round of the Garmin Summer Series, also supported by Gul and Trident.
