Fuel filters recalled by Osculati

by Sail-World Cruising on 11 May 2013
Fuel filter 17.664.00-17.664.10 .. .
Because a small number of leaks have been reported on some products, Italian marine equipment firm Osculati is recalling all fuel filters with the part numbers 17.664.00-17.664.10 due to a potential safety issue.

The firm has discovered a manufacturing error on the fuel filters 17.664.00 and 17.664.10 delivered in the period from October 2012 to April 2013.

Some filters have been equipped with a gasket seal of the wrong dimension which could cause a leakage of fuel.

Should you have acquired these products during the indicated period of time we invite you to contact your reseller urgently for an examination and possible repair at no charge.

'Despite rigorous quality control procedures, a small number of leaks on these filters have been reported,' says the company in a statement. 'The resulting investigations have identified the root cause of the problem to be a tolerance issue on a rubber seal.

'Customer safety is our absolute priority. Therefore, as a precautionary measure we have taken the decision to initiate a product recall and to deliver FOC the correct seal, whether or not the product is still under warranty.'

Osculati is a leading producer and distributor of marine equipment for retailers and boatbuilders in Europe. Its catalogue contains more than 17,000 items in stock.

All customers in possession of the above mentioned fuel filters should contact their supplier or write directly to Osculati at recall@osculati.it, indicating the address for free delivery of the seal replacement.

Checking your rigging
The best fertiliser on a farm is the farmer's footsteps, and the best insurance for your mast is the eye of the skipper Just as they say the best fertiliser on a farm is the footsteps of the Farmer, so the best insurance for your mast is the eye of the skipper. This means regular checks before any major voyage. However, when it comes to a thorough check, the only way of ensuring you have found every fault is to remove the rig.
