For Christmas a Shiny new Sail-World.com

by Brendan Maxwell on 25 Dec 2014
Sail-World for Christmas SW
Santa’s elves started on January 7th 2014 building a set of shiny new Sail-World.com websites and just minutes before Christmas morning in one of Santa’s first touch downs Auckland New Zealand, TetraMedia General Manager Jedda Murphy flicked the switch on the dedicated TetraMeda servers in Frankfurt Germany to take almost all our world-wide audience to the new Sail-World sites.

Murphy commented. ‘Our software development team has been working nonstop since January, totally re-writing the front end of the site in dot net, a massive project, we have had the site in beta for the last three months, with over 200 extra tweaks being made to fine tune the audience experience.

‘With the expansion of the new Sail-World network world-wide, our nine racing sites and our six seven cruising sites all geolocated for local stories and local advertising, updated 24x7 through the world’s largest sailing news network.
‘The new sites gives our audience a range of options in viewing formats, from multicolumn desktop to smart phone experience. It’s much faster loading and viewing.

‘The new sites showcase our 250,000 image gallery and our 30,000 video gallery.

‘The cog wheel in the top right hand corner will give you the option to change the format in which you view Sail-World.

‘There are three formats available, the default is the familiar current layout, but you can opt to see Feature stories separate from regular sailing news. If you don't want to change formats then choose the middle of the three format options, and 'Sky' as the background.

‘A third is the Mobile format which shows stories in a horizontal configuration for a better viewing experience.
‘You can also change the background colour in which you wish to view Sail-World - with five options available (click the most left hand box and the options will drop down).

‘The changes have been made to enable you to customise your viewing experience and to make Sail-World more flexible with the array of web-capable devices available.’

North American Sail-World President John Kerr said today. ‘A massive effort by our international team. Our ever growing traffic meant we were overloading our servers constantly. They have delivered faster, cleaner, simpler sites with better graphics. This is a big leap forward for us. ‘

Europe and UK Editor Dan Ibsen. ‘We are proud of what our team has achieved. More sites for better geolocation, they are all faster to load and simpler to navigate. The Sail-World sites are unique in their language handling ability.

Ever advancing technology now provides audience access to news in 79 languages. Now you can for the first time read a French, Russian or Chinese only race report in English, taking advantage of the Sail-World 1200 words and phase technical glossaries.’

Murphy continued

‘Cutting edge technology does have its problems. Up to now Google Analytics has not be coping well with rotating ads on geolocating sites and has been massively under recording ad banner click thrus from these more sophisticated sites.

‘Good news at last with Google beta testing its new Ad tag system which is both Double Click and GA compatible and will accurately report rotating add click thrus and which will allows Sail-World to present advertisers with verified DC and GA outgoing click thru reports, as soon as the upgraded tags are launched, expected to be in February or March 2015.’

Note if you are still using Microsoft Windows XP, with Internet Explorer 8 or earlier and you really need to upgrade, you won’t see the new Sail-world. But until you upgrade that no longer supported old browser you missing out of lots of other things too web wide, not just the new Sail-World.

Please tell us what you love or hate about the new sites through the Feedback forms at the bottom of the sites.
