Flying Dutchman European Championship 2012 at Altea Richard Phillips
The Flying Dutchman European Championship 2012, being hosted by Club Nautico Altea, has now reached its mid-point with six races sailed.
The regatta inspection of the 42 boats was quickly and efficiently completed by the FD measurement team and an there was a video presentation at the Opening Ceremony followed by well-chosen words from a representative of each of the competing nations, all paying tribute to the start of the 60th Anniversary of the FD Class.
Two races were completed in light winds on the first day with Nicola Vespasiani and Francesco Vespasiani leading the overall results after winning the first race and finishing fifth in the second.
Day 2 saw a change in fortunes.
Jacob Bojsen-Moller and Jorgen Bojsen-Moller Hellerup easily won the third race (after a convincing win in race 2 on day 10 but a BFD in the fourth race allowed Szabolcs Majthinyi and AndrĂ¡s Domokos to top the overnight leader board, with a comfortable eight point lead over Shmuel Markhoff and Michael Matcscheoth, who showed consistency with a top six position in each race.
Enno Kramer and Ard Geelkerken finished with two thirds after two eighths on the first day and were third overall after four races.
Day 3 dawned with little wind but it increased to 10 knots during racing.
Nicola Vespasiani and Francesco Vespasiani won race 5 and placed fourth in race 6, They now discard a 16th in race 4 to move up to second overall, three points ahead of Markhoff and Matcsheoth who discard a 12th in race 6, after a second in race 5. Kramer and Geelkerken recovered from a 13th (their discard) in race 5 to finish third in race 6.
