First of two image galleries from Day 2 of the 2015 Finn Gold Cup, sailed at Takapuna Boating Club.

There were several false starts to the racing caused by the ebbing tide pushing the fleet over the start line.

The race got underway in an 11kt breeze northerly onshore breeze. Soon after the start the fleet split into two groups with the bigger group heading out into Rangitoto Channel getting the benefit of the stronger tide and probably a better shift.

Overnight leader, Andrew Murdoch (NZL) went left, and initially looked to be in a good position, but when the two groups crossed he was mid-fleet and sailed well to finish 17th place - sufficient to retain second place overall.

Defending World Champion Giles Scott turned in an exception performance in a fading breeze, to pull his way through the fleet and take a narrow race win from Ioannis Mitakis (GRE) with Zsombor Berecz (HUN) in third place.

After the conclusion of the race, the breeze failed to settle in direction although the strength was quite sailable, and the decision was made to not sail the scheduled Race 4 on this day.
