Cowes Week - Weather outlook provided by Rupert Holmes

by Cowes Week Ltd on 1 Aug 2014
Shaping up for a great week of racing at this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Rick Tomlinson http://www.rick-tomlinson.com
The weather outlook for Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week (2-9 August) is currently indicating that the long run of hot and gloriously sunny weather that has brought frustratingly light and fickle breezes to Cowes and the waters of the Solent area over the past few weeks is changing to a more unsettled picture. This is predicted to provide ideal winds for racing, setting the scene for another classic edition of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.

A cold front is forecast to cross the race area on Saturday although the models differ in how strong a feature they expect this to be. It will, however, herald a change to slightly cooler weather with more of a westerly airflow and stronger breezes than we have seen for most of the past few weeks. This ought to provide first-class racing, with gusts on the opening day forecast to reach 20 knots or more.

Sunday looks to be a brilliantly sunny day, with a west south-westerly airflow averaging around 15 knots, but with gusts well into the 20s according to the Met Office model, although the GFS model is currently predicting wind speeds 5-7 knots less than this. The first part of next week looks to follow a similar pattern, with plenty of sun, especially on Monday, although with lower temperatures than of late and a south-westerly breeze of around 15 knots.

Entries can be accepted throughout the regatta, and anyone keen to get afloat simply needs to visit the Regatta Centre before 17:00 on any given day in order to be able to race the next Event website
