Cold, cloud and a little rain could not spoil the party for the 474 sailors from 33 nations hitting the water for the Techno 293 Worlds organized by the Circolo Surf Torbole.

There were world titles on the line in the Techno 293 Under 15, Under-17 plus male and female categories at the Garda Trentino following the opening ceremony on Saturday with racing beginning the following Monday.

There were three races scheduled on the first day for the older age groups with the under 15 fleets racing twice. After the first six races the fleets then get split in to gold and silver fleets so the strongest will advance and fight for the world title.

Mauro Covre, FIV technical official, said, 'It was quite a difficult day in the water with cold temperatures that required commitment from all the racers.'

Under-17 (Youth)

Giorgia Special (SEF Stamura Ancona) showed a sailing maturity to the lead by one point ahead of Israel's Shira Benbenisti.

Naama Gazit (ISR) is in third just three points behind Special. At the end of racing Gazit said, 'In the last two races of the day I remained conservative but aggressive at the same time. The road is still very long: there are still five days of racing.'

Under-17 Male (Youth)

There was a great start among the male fleet with Nicholas Renna tied in first with Garandeau (FRA) after the first three races. Argentina's Belisario Kopp is third three points from the top.

Male Under 15 (Junior)

After two races in the under 15 category, the Italian sailors are already in podium position with the Alessandro José Tomasi and Giovanni Di Russo third. Also in the top ten is European Champion Edward Tanas who is sixth after placing third and twelfth. First and second place respectively are Greece's Kalpogiannakis and France's Ghio.

Female Under 15 (Youth)

Mak Cheuk Wing (HKG) leads by a point to France's Garandeau and Jariel who are tied in second.

Male and Female

After two races in the over age categories, Norway's Ruud is first followed by the Japan's Achiwa and Italy's Cangemi. Lucy Grayston leads the female category.
