Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Ladies Day is being held on Thursday 16th August 2012. Plans are shaping up for this year's Ladies Day!

There are a variety of fun and celebratory activities taking place this year in support of Ladies Day; our celebration of women in sailing.

On-the-spot prizes will be awarded straight after racing finishes to female sailors that our RIB spies, courtesy of Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare and Champagne Lanson.

Female shoppers will enjoy a great 10% discount on all Gill purchases in the Aquatogs store in Cowes as well as at the Gill retail unit at Cowes Yacht Haven.

The BOSS Watches daily lucky dip will focus on the Ladies Collection at their units on Cowes Yacht Haven and on Cowes Parade.

A special pre-bookable Ladies Day lunch will be held at Northwood House, including canapés and drinks on the lawn at noon.

A special Ladies Day racing packed lunch, courtesy of The Food Hamper, will be available to order. Pop into The Food Hamper on Cowes High Street or call: 01983 295680.

The Food Hamper are also offering a 'cream tea in a box'- perfect for enjoying while spectating on The Green.
In the early evening, a special reception will be held for invited guests at The Talisker Boathouse, Cowes Yacht Haven at which the winner of the 2012 Ladies Day Trophy will be announced. This trophy recognises the outstanding contribution, commitment, or achievement of women in sailing and nominations for this award will be accepted until midnight on Friday 10th August so there's still time to submit AAM Cowes Week website

The start for the SB20 (formerly SB3) class was in relatively light winds, but the fleet encountered big gusts and lulls only a few hundred metres to the west.

Although mean wind speeds for much of the day were not forecast to be particularly severe, the possibility of sustained squalls of 33-34 knots was a serious concern for race officials.

Later the breeze increased still further, to give puffs of up to 16 knots by late morning, before easing back to a mean speed of just over 10 knots.

The Britannia Cup is one of the most prestigious prizes at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week. The Britannia Cup is one of the most prestigious prizes at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week and today, IRC Class 0 will compete in order to claim it. The Cup will be awarded to the winner of the class today and formally presented at the Royal Yacht Squadron prizegiving on Friday 17 August.

After a bright morning, a band of cloud with showers on its leading edge was moving eastwards towards Cowes, with very light winds forecast to follow in its wake.

Cowes Week Day 2 - Perfect conditions for Family Day
Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week second day saw perfect sailing conditions for the event’s Family Day. Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week second day saw plenty of sun and a south-westerly breeze that built to give perfect sailing conditions in 14-17 knots of wind for the event’s Family Day. An erratically moving weather trough that brought a line of showers and light winds to Cowes just before racing was scheduled to get underway presented a headache for race officials.
