2015 RS Aero UK Series – Overall report

by Peter Barton on 18 Sep 2015
Lymington produced exciting conditions in June LPB Aerial Imagery
After three Rounds there is a whopping total of 123 entries in the RS Aero UK Series. After taking out 14 double entries, who have opted to swap rigs through the varying conditions, there remains a massive 109 unique entries!

The UK Inland National Championship at Bowmoor SC, Swindon, is the final Round on Saturday 10th October. With the points so close any one of 19 sailors could take a title!

In the RS Aero 5 Matthew Caiger (Sevenoaks) has taken the lead with a solid two thirds. However, no less than 13 sailors could still lay claim the RS Aero 5 Series title!

Peter Barton (Lymington) leads the RS Aero 7 with two firsts, however if National Champ Glen Truswell (Castle Cove) produces the goodies again at the final event it could all be snatched away on tie break.

The RS Aero 9 remains close. Richard Watsham (Starcross) holds a first and second but no fewer than three of his competitors could steal the Big Rig title from him at Bowmoor.

We have had it all so far; 25kn gusts against a strong ebb on day one at Lymington to a pleasant 12kn dropping to a drift on day two. Chelmarsh was medium, but with a large differential of 10-20kn, challenging shifts and silky smooth flat water - a very different planing challenge to Lymington. The UK Nationals at Weymouth varied from light to 'the windy side of medium'. The RS Aeros are scoring this series as separate fleets, although have enjoyed some interesting inter fleet racing with PY results too.

All is to play for regards the UK Series at The Bowmoor Inlands in October. First up though is Alton Water’s Eastern Area open this Saturday 19th September.
