Day 2 - Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup 2015 Martinez Studio
Turkcell Platinum Bosphorus Cup 2015 - Welcome back to Istanbul the transcontinental city that straddles the continents of Europe and Asia, and spans the Bosphorus Straits between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. The weather delivered another perfect day, enticing the teams out to compete in the classic Bosphorous Race.

Over four hours, one of the world’s busiest commercial shipping routes is closed down, to make way for the Bosphorus Race, taking teams on a race course stretching between the natural waterways of two continents. The racing is quite simply unique, a spectacle set between the two bridges that connect the European and Asian sides of Turkey. Fleets race along the stunningly breathtaking shorelines of the Bosphorous, packed with the old and new of Istanbul - with architectural gems reflecting the history of the nation.

Teams however need to stay focused on the racing, and not distracted by the dramatic scenery. Spectators pack out the shore, to witness this rare event of yacht racing replacing ships for just a few hours. Racing unfolds just a few metres off the shore, in an impressive display of strategy and skill.

Racing in the Straits is incredibly demanding and tactically challenging, with both the breeze and current critical factors. Teams have a challenge to hunt out the optimum course and find the favourable line. The strategy, limited width of the Straits and boat on boat battles put teams right in the firing line and can undo valuable places in moments. Hard work and belief will decide the moment of truth.

Smart decision making and consistent form from the teams who found themselves claiming the top finishes. They know what it takes to win and played a perfect balance of attack and defence. Victory to Arkas Flying Box, chased by FarrFara in second and Renault Farr Away in third. Arkas had established an indisputable lead, but in a charge to the finish, the outcome was a bit tighter for the second and third placed Farr 40s, who crossed the line just 35 seconds apart.

With racing over, teams enjoyed the unique hospitality that Istanbul always offers, with celebrations and partying shoreside. For some lucky guests, the day’s highlight was the opportunity to race onboard the Volvo 70. Join us again tomorrow.
