Tingley (CAN) leads in the 2.4mR's with a day left

2.4mR’s downwind on Day 4 of 2008 Paralympics, Qingdao

Canadian Paul TINGLEY came back strongly in today's two 2.4 Metre races to reclaim the overall lead heading into the final day of the Paralympic Sailing Competition.

After leading since the opening day of the regatta, Paul TINGLEY (CAN) had dropped back to second place following yesterday’s very light wind race, but bounced back strongly today. The Canadian scored a second and a fourth place finish to move back to the top of the leaderboard on 24 points, five points clear of American skipper John RUF.

RUF scored 10, 3 for the day and lies second overall on 29 points. Sydney gold medallist Heiko KRÖGER got his day off to the perfect start with a bullet in race seven, but dropped to 11th in the following race. He lies in third place overall, although is just one point behind RUF.Denmark’s Jens Als ANDERSEN is tied on points with the German after consistent 3,5 scores in today’s two races.

2.4mR’s dueling on Day 3 2008 Paralympics - Qingdao

Yesterday’s race winner Thierry SCHMITTER (NED) lies on 33 points, just nine points off the gold medal position. He is tied on points with Damien SEGUIN of France. The 2004 gold medallist looked to be out of contention after following up his OCS score from yesterday with an 11th in today’s opening race. However SEGUIN fought his way back into medal contention with a win in race eight.

With just nine points separating the top six skippers, it looks set to be a very closely fought battle for the medals in tomorrow’s final two 2.4 Metre races.
