Team Australia headline APC Logistics Lock Crowther Memorial Regatta

by Doug Cuming on 2 Sep 2011
Team Australia arrives in Sydney Harbour - APC Logistics LCMR2011 Sean Langman
Giant 60 foot trimaran Team Australia will set the pace at the 2011 APC Lock Crowther Memorial Regatta starting on September 30th. Famous for her win in the 2005 Transat Jaques Vabre as Banque Populaire, the giant trimaran will hit speeds of over 30 knots down Pittwater.

Over 30 multihulls from Pittwater, Sydney, Lake Macquarie and interstate will contest the RMYC Broken Bay based series starting with the Blue Water Classic ocean race on the Friday, followed by four inshore races on the Saturday and Sunday.

The Racing Division will include number of fast trimarans and catamarans, including Sean Langman’s Team Australia, Melbourne Grainger cat Mad Max (Tony Considine), Indian Chief (Darren Drew), Voodoo Spirit (Doug Cuming), Quickstep (Jason Geddes), Lukim Yu (Club Captain Robin Ottowa). Corsair and Farrier trimarans will make up most of the racing fleet. Lake Macquarie regulars, Foxy (Shane Russell) and Louie the Tri (Paul Nudd) will join several boats from interstate coming down from the Multihull Nationals the week before.

For the more relaxed, the Cruising Division allows crews to take part in the action and improve skills without needing a spinnaker. A number of cruising multis, including several Seawinds, will be content to stretch their legs and improve their skills without having to fly a spinnaker.

After the racing, the RMYC Bar will be the place to meet old and new friends and to swap stories of the day. A social programme includes the Seawind sponsored dinner on the Saturday and the Presentation Dinner on the Sunday.

A launching ramp is located close by and parking is available for trailers. A berth or mooring can also be provided by contacting the RMYC on 02 9997 5511.

APC Logistics, an Australian based international air and sea freight forwarder, is supporting the regatta for the sixth time as principal sponsor. Seawind Catamarans is again providing generous support for the regatta social program and prize pool. Other sponsors include: Sailtech, Tactical Directions, Hood, Multihull World magazine, Summit Coatings, Geddes Optical, Mitre 10, Tempo Spars, David Bray Yachts.

The Notice of Race and further details are available on the RMYC Multihulls Lock Crowther Memorial Regatta website: http://www.royalmotor.com.au/multihulls/Crowther.html.
