David Swete reports from Team Alpari FX from Bermuda, with Adam Minioprio, Nick Blackman and Tom Powrie at the Argo Gold Cup:
Hello all from Bermuda Airport,
Totally out-sailed today by not only Sir Ben Ainslie, but also Taylor Canfield, a very dejected Team Alpari FX are left ruing our opportunities today but remain positive and still in the hunt to take out the Alpari World Match Racing Tour.
Although not without our chances, we lost 3-0 and 2-0 to Ben and Taylor respectively, in a horror day that saw us lose 5 consecutive matches. Extremely light and shifty conditions put pay to our good form in the breeze earlier this week, as we struggled to adapt to the fickle conditions.
Despite the disappointing end to the regatta, we remain content with our 4th position against 20 of the best match racing teams competing today. Francesco Bruni, fresh from the Louis Vuitton series, took it to America’s Cup winning tactician Ben Ainslie and took out the final 3-2, in an impressive display of classic match racing.
Next up for Team Alpari FX is the all important Monsoon Cup. We are currently 15 points adrift of Taylor Canfield on the overall standings but with 1 and a ½ points available for the final event, 38 points are up for grabs and the World Title is well within our reach. Adam, Tom and Dave now head straight to Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Vietnam race. Dave is on a TP 52 Lucky while Adam and Tom are sailing with long time friend and our old sponsor Dave Ross on his Kerr 40.
