Talked to Sean Langman yesterday about the Sydney Auckland record set by Team Australia, now ratified by the WSSR Council, the two day 19 hour 2 mins and 45 second record for the 1265 nautical mile trip, they averaged almost 19 knots. They could have been faster but for a shark and sunfish. Will publish that interview towards the end of the week.

The ISAF Rolex Sailor of the Year Awards will be decided in Oman next week at the ISAF Annual Conference. We have two Australian nominations Mat Belcher, who will be aiming for his 18th straight regatta win at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne regatta next month and Paul Larsen, the fastest sailor in the world.
Ahead of that event, we´ve transcribed the acceptance speech from Lijia Xu, the Chinese Laser Radial Gold medallist, who was crowned Womens Sailor of the Year in 2012. Her speech was one of the most eloquent we’ve ever heard from a sailor. It is a must read. Hope we hear one half as good from either Mat or Paul.
Lots of news, as always. So get into it.
