Sydney Harbour Regatta 2013 - As the entry numbers for Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s sailing spectacle go beyond 200, Wolverines drummer and singer, John Clinton, has announced he will race in the regatta ahead of entertaining yachties and families and friends on the final day after racing from 4.30pm.
Clinton, whose famous band has entertained troops in the Middle East, has entered his and wife Kim’s lime green schemed Beneteau Oceanis 50 Holy Cow, featuring its trademark cow patch headsail. He will race in the Performance Class Non-Spinnaker division against other like-minded crews before heading ashore to make music.
Not to be missed and starting from 4.30pm on Sunday March 10, the award-winning Wolverines, whose other members are Darcy LeYear on guitar and lead vocals, and Chris Doyle on keyboard and vocals, will play all the favourites.
All will bop away on the sands at the Club’s beach while enjoying a Middle Harbour Yacht Club style barbecue. Then comes the Helly Hansen Fashion Parade at 6.30pm and the official prizegiving, including prize draws for $ 1,000 worth of Helly Hansen sailing gear, a $1500 trip to Hamilton Island donated by Robert Oatley Vineyards and a $2,000 boat lift donated by Sydney City Marine.
On the water, the headline act will be Grant Wharington and his now 100 foot super maxi, Wild Thing, from Queensland. Wharington, originally from Victoria, made changes to his yacht, including lengthening it by two feet, prior to Christmas. This will be his first major event since.
In a ‘curtain raiser’ on Friday 8 March, the Sydney 38’s will be holding the first races of their Nationals, adding to the overall event which gets underway on the weekend, inclusive of the Historic 18 footers and classic yachts, which will bring back memories of yesteryear.
To be held on the weekend of 9-10 March, the Sydney Harbour Regatta is NSW’s largest regatta and uses the entirety of Sydney Harbour and offshore courses as well, and is open to yachts and keel boats of all designs and sizes.
Racing for the 26 classes/divisions will take place on ten course areas and will make a spectacular sight for spectators and those racing.
The Sydney Harbour Regatta could not be held without the valuable assistance of the CYCA, MYC, NCYC, RANSA, RPAYC, RPEYC, RSYS, SASC, and SFS.
The Sydney Harbour Regatta is sponsored by leading water sports and technical apparel supplier, Helly Hansen, and supported by Sydney Ports, Robert Oatley Vineyards and Sydney City Marine.
Sailing Instructions can now be found online at the official Sydney Harbour Regatta website.
