Star Worlds 2008 - Online registration now open

by Connie Bischoff on 5 Dec 2007
Star Worlds 2007, Cascais, Portugal Fried Elliott http://www.friedbits.com

When over 200 Star sailors arrive at Miami’s Coral Reef Yacht Club next April to sail in the Star Worlds 2008, they had better be ready for the fierce battle to win the Worlds in this oldest of the Olympic sailing classes.

There are still four slots open for nations to compete in the Olympics with six to eight nations trying to qualify. Germany and other nations will be using it as their Olympic trials. It may even more exciting than the recent U.S. Olympic Star Trials where, before the last race, the top three teams were only separated by five points.

The SW’08 has great sponsor support from the marine industry with SLAM (Official Technical Clothing Sponsor), Sperry Top-Sider (Official Shoe Sponsor), Harken (Official Technical Equipment and Gear Sponsor), North Sails and Quantum Sails. The beer sponsor is Heineken. Did you ever notice the Star on their logo?

The Star World Championship 2008 (SW’08) www.starworlds2008.com is up and running and registration is open.

The SW’08 Committee had six goals for the website: information prior to the regatta with a huge FAQs section, great regatta photos by Fried Elliot, immediate news articles, an online store and on-line registration.

Once the sailing begins, the website will have a live-update from the water which will show the status of each race (i.e., mark roundings, wind delays, etc.). Once the races are over, there will be immediate online results.

Now all we need are sailors and wind…
