Chilly conditions met 53 sailors for the Gill Sorrento Mid-Winters held at SSCBC over two days. Great racing with a very social on shore program proved very successful and will become an annual event.

Classes of Laser Radial, 4.7, Minnows and Optimists all were well supported with many using this event as a great warm up for major competitions both in Australia and abroad.

SSCBC race management finished 3 races on the first day with very tight finishes over a very busy course. It was terrific to see the skills of young sailors being tested in challenging conditions.

Competitors were welcomed ashore with soups, burgers and warm fires creating a great atmosphere well into the night.

Light conditions met the fleet on the second day causing a delay in racing but an increase in social activities with all enjoying a beautiful Winters day.

Finally competitors were sent on water and raced in a 10-14knot breeze and strong flood tide testing everyone and some chilly capsizes. Again, all appreciated the warm food provided on shore and a great deal of fun was had.

Final results showed some fantastic racing with two of the four classes needing a count back to split first and second places.

Laser Radials was won by Anna Phillip who shared the points with Ben Hartnett only to come down to the last race result. Both sailors are off to the World Youth Laser Radial Champs in QLD.

In the Laser 4.7, again the results went to a tie-break with Will Fox just getting over Jasper Pluim and Sam Hannah finishing third.

The minnows had great competition with brother and sister duo Hayden Harding just beating Laura and Josh Copeland in third place.

Optimists also provided their usual close racing with Steven Case coming out on top from Lachlan Evenden tying with Hamish Fleetwood.
