Singapore National Youth Championships - On track to secure the title

Singapore Youth National Championships 2013 - Day 3 Icarus Sailing Media http://www.icarussailingmedia.com/
After two superb days of sailing at the Fish & Co. National Youth Sailing Championships 2013, the third day proved to be no less spectacular. The first race of the day got off to a good start in the morning - the fleets were greeted with pleasant weather conditions – allowing them to successfully engage in another enthralling day of racing.

Due to the relatively light wind conditions, both races proved to be extremely tactical, with short legs and close mark roundings, and every small shift was critical for the sailors.

Laser Radial sailor Ryan Lo, sailed incredibly well in both of the races that were held – nailing another two wins to firmly secure his top placing on the leaderboard with just 16 points; 23 points ahead of Jevyn Ong. The third place is currently still held on by Amos Lim, who scored a sixth and 12th in races 9 and 10 respectively – totaling his score to 53. Hot on his heels is Hilary Myen Tan, who is just two points behind. Spectators can definitely look forward to some exciting action between the sailors in this fleet, as everyone will surely be fighting to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

In the Laser 4.7, Bernie Chin has been unstoppable throughout the regatta – scoring seven wins out of the 10 races held to maintain a strong lead in the fleet. The second place currently still belongs to Conor Nicholas, who has got 34 points in the bag, while Lim Ann Ann has steadily crawled up the leaderboard to third place with 46 points, replacing Samantha Yom who is now fourth overall with 49 points.

Nicholas Wee from the Windsurfing Bic Techno fleet is currently still dominating the top spot on the leaderboard with 11 points after enjoying an excellent day of racing – pocketing a first place in race 9 and a second place in race 10. Chasing closely behind is Wallace Gan with 20 points, and Ynez Lim, with 34 points.

The star of the Byte Fleet, Fathin Rasyiqah, is currently leading the 80-boat fleet with 49 points, with Raphael Ng closing the gap in second place with 54 points.

In the Optimist Gold Fleet, the races were excruciatingly close between the sailors. Great effort from Ryan Teo, who put up a brilliant showing – scoring a first and second place for races eight and nine respectively – allowing him to jump six positions to rank seventh overall. Edward Tan is currently still dominating the fleet with 48 points, while Fathin Rasyiqin, the younger sister of the current leader in the Byte Fleet – Fathin Rasyiqah – is placed second overall with 59 points.

In the 420, Kimberly Lim and Savannah Siew are possibly the only pair of sailors who have been performing consistently well – scoring a series of first and second places throughout the regatta, and nothing less. It is clear to all that they are bent on taking home the Champion’s title, and it will definitely take a lot more effort, and perhaps some luck for Elisa Yukie Yokoyama and Jazlene Ong, who are currently placed in second place overall with 16 points, to try and snatch the top spot from them.

As the regatta enters its fourth day tomorrow, the competition is set to heat up with the sailors fighting it out for the prestigious championship honours.
