Search continues for seven missing sailors on NZ to Australian passage. An RNZAF P3 Orion has returned to New Zealand last night after completing a seventh day of searching, without sighting a missing American schooner or its life raft.
The 21m (70ft) Nina was sailing from Opua in the Bay of Islands to Newcastle, Australia, with seven people on board, but has not been heard from since 4 June. The Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand (RCCNZ) tasked a P3 Orion to conduct an aerial search yesterday of an area south of Norfolk Island measuring 2,100 square nautical miles.

A new top gun, Telefonica now Black Jack to make its Australian debut in the upcoming Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race.
Queenslander Mark Bradford will helm the Volvo 70 Black Jack which Peter Harburg purchased earlier this year. Previously raced as Telefonica in last year’s Volvo Ocean Race (where she won the first three legs and finished fourth overall), Harburg had the boat shipped to Australia where it has undergone some modifications to bring her in line with Australian standards.
Australia’s 49erFX and 49er crews have made their way to Denmark for the European Championships, with racing beginning in Aarhus on Tuesday, less than a week after the EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup round in Kiel, Germany.
The Kiel event was a successful one for Australia’s 49erFX crews with Olivia Price and Caitlin Elks winning silver and Tessa Parkinson and Chelsea Hall bronze, with Haylee Outteridge and Nina Curtis finishing just off the podium in fifth and Ella Giudice and Kate Lathouras ninth. All four crews will be in action in Denmark, with the event the first ever European Championship for the new women’s 49erFX class.
Australia´s 49ers crews in Denmark will be Will Phillips and Rhys Mara, David Gilmour and Sam Phillips, Luke Parkinson and Fang Warren, Joel Turner and Lewis Brake, Peter Kendall and Harry Bethwaite, and George Davies and Jack Lloyd. Australia´s 49er ranks will be strengthened down the track when Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen return from the 34th America´s Cup.
