Seabreezes in Innamincka
by Rob Kothe on 30 Aug 2006
The Pre-Pre Olympic test regatta in Qingdao has shown the Australian Sailing Squad needs to further expand its light weather training.
Michael Jones, the Australian Sailing Team Program Director explained during the Sydney International Boat Show that the priority for this Pre-Pre-test event was more discovery than results, however the combination of tide and breeze has plainly shocked the sailors.
While yesterday there was breeze and we hope there will be some for the Medal Races today with Australians competing, the reality from this event, where the British Team has dominated and the Australians disappointed, is that the daily sea-breeze at Innamincka will probably provide similar conditions.
For those who don’t know, Innamincka is located 340 kilometres from Tibooburra, near the junction of the Strezlecki, Cordillo and Nappa Merrie tracks on the famous Cooper Creek in Central Australia.
