Sunday’s U.S. Youth Match Racing Championship finale featured the conclusion of the Semifinal rounds, the Final Series and the Petit Finals.
Teams racing in Elliott 6m sailboats were graced with outstanding conditions for the second consecutive day on Lake Michigan. This US Sailing National Championship was hosted by Sail Sheboygan and the Sheboygan Yacht Club.
The winner of the Rose Cup was determined in the last race of the Finals in a first to three points series. With the series even at two - two, number two seed Romain Screve (Ross, Calif./San Franciso Yacht Club/St. Francis Yacht Club), Jackson Ritter (San Francisco, Calif.) and Sammy Shea (San Francisco, Calif.) edged number one seed Sean Cornell (Centerport, NY/Centerport Yacht Club/Zentor Racing), Thomas Pluchino (Centerport, NY) and Scott Ewing (Miami, Fla.) to win the championship.
The win earned Screve an invitation to the 2016 Governor’s Cup on July 18-23 at the Balboa Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, California. Screve also qualifies for the 2016 Oakcliff Halloween Invitational on October 29-30 in Match 40s.
