The scholars honored at the dinner were Joseph 'Joey' Heimburger of Gloucester, Virginia; Crystal Marietta of Fort Myers, Florida; Kaitlin Long of Denver, Colorado; Katherine Wilson-James of Rohnert Park, California; and T. Ryan Yowell of Salisbury, Maryland. In 2009, each was awarded a $20,000 Coast Guard Foundation scholarship for college.
'Through the tremendous generosity of Mrs. Christovich and other donors, we are proud of our ability to help children of enlisted Coast Guard men and women achieve their higher education goals,' said Anne Brengle, president, Coast Guard Foundation. 'For the first time since receiving the scholarships, the awardees got a chance to meet and thank the Christoviches for their kindness and support, and the Christoviches were able to get to know people whose lives they've greatly improved.'
