San Diego to Vallarta Race 2014 dates announced

by Jared Wohlgemuth on 29 Aug 2012
March 1, 2012. Race Day 1, Division 3 Starts - San Diego to Vallarta Race San Diego Yacht Club . http://www.sdyc.org
San Diego to Vallarta Race, the 31st Biennial 'Race to Paradise,' is scheduled for March 13th to 22nd 2014. You won’t want to miss this… save the dates March 13th to 22nd 2014!

In 2012, Dennis Pennell’s R/P 50 Blue Blazes set the course on fire in the 30th edition of the San Diego Yacht Club Vallarta Race, winning Division 3 and First Overall. Pennell, who will be 75 years young in 2014, looks forward to defending his title and getting his third Vallarta Race win.

Incredible scenery, fantastic open ocean racing and great camaraderie await participants and spectators in the 31st biennial Vallarta Race. The March 13 - 22, 2014 race dates incorporate a full moon for racers – and boats are already signing up to take on the challenge. At the finish, beautiful Marival Resort or the four diamond Marival Residences & World Spa, Nuevo Vallarta awaits. Racers, family and friends will be treated to true Mexican hospitality, beautiful facilities, fantastic beaches, delicious food and cool drink – along with world-class resort accommodations. The Awards Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at the Marival Residences.

The recent history of the race has been memorable. The 2010 Vallarta Race was a record setter, with the boats really lighting it up from the tip of the Baja peninsula across the Sea of Cortez – check out the video clips here. And, the 2012 Vallarta Race was sailed in epic conditions as the entire fleet set a blistering pace towards the Banderas Bay finish line. Will 2014 offer more of the same?

Following the 2014 Vallarta Race Awards Dinner on the 22nd – get ready for some exciting buoy racing on Banderas Bay as the 38th anniversary edition of the MEXORC (Mexican Ocean Racing Circuit) regatta kicks off. MEXORC has a long, rich tradition and is a great international event – sailed in fantastic Banderas Bay (Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit area). Seven days of racing over eight calendar days in one of the finest sailing venues in the world. Don’t miss it!

The Vallarta Race hosted by San Diego Yacht Club is a biennial event. The race starts off San Diego’s Shelter Island and finishes off Punta Mita in beautiful Banderas Bay, Mexico. At the conclusion of the 1000 mile offshore race, relax and enjoy the very best the Mexican Rivera has to offer. Then stay for some fantastic inshore buoy and random leg racing around Banderas Bay - MEXORC 2014.

HL Enloe’s trimaran LoeReal (see onboard video footage from 2012 race) will once again join the race in an attempt to break the course record currently held by another trimaran, the late Steve Fossett’s Lakota.

We hope you will join San Diego Yacht Club, Blue Blazes, LoeReal and the other pending entries and be a part of the tradition that is the Vallarta Race. Entries received before May 31, 2013 will receive an early entry discount of $200. Event website
