Sail Mooloolaba - Queensland IRC Championship expecting hot entry list

The 2014 Yachting Queensland IRC State Titles will be conducted as part of Sail Mooloolaba on the weekend of June 28 and 29, 2014.

This is the first time this State Championship has been held at Mooloolaba and it certainly will not be the last. IRC is the premier yacht racing division of Sail Mooloolaba and the championship will attract the biggest and fastest yachts in the state.

The entry list has been gradually building in preparation for this event. Local IRC boats such as Gary McCarthy’s Beneteau 34.7 Brilliant Pearl and Mark Jacobsen’s Sydney 36 Hasta La Vista were some of the first to make their mark.

More have followed, like the RP42 Black Jack Too, with Vaughan Prentice on the helm. Todd Anderson’s Mumm 36 Corum will be back on the start line this year.

Anderson finished third in Southport in 2013 and while it was a commendable effort, his goals are set to earning a position higher on the podium and an improved race record.

Tony Love is another name on the entry list, preparing to be on the start line with his 10-year-old J133 Patriot. 'Our entry is subject to our rig going back into the boat in time. It comes out this week, so we need to keep everyone on the job to get it back and ready,' Love said.

Love says he expects that Chris Morgan’s J130 Ragtime will also enter the IRC State Titles. Steve Kerin’s Dekadence, a DK46, is another possible entrant and Love is speculating will be there for the competition.

International Race Officer Ross Chisholm will be on control of the race proceedings this year with the assistance of a team of volunteers from both Maroochy Sailing Club and Mooloolaba Yacht Club.

The Mooloolaba Marina has offered free berthing of up to one week, subject to availability, as well as a 15 per cent discount for any competing yacht booking bordering the event.

Anyone who is interested in taking up this offer will need to contact the Mooloolaba Marina via email at manager@mooloolabamarina.com.au and CC Sail Mooloolaba (sailmooloolaba@bigpond.com).

The Notice of Race and Entry for all events will be available soon on the Sail Mooloolaba website.
